Installing a phoneline - how to do it?

I have a wall jack with no wire to it in my new house's office and want to hook it into the phone system. I am 99.99999999% sure the phone system enters the house in the basement near my breaker box. I want to run a wire from the jack into the basement, along the rafters to where the phone lines enter the house and tap into it there.

Is this easy to do? What if I want a 2-line jack?
