Will do a fresh format and throw XP Pro on. I'm kinda outta the loop on Intel stuff, as my past few systems have been AMD. Anything that I need to download and install? Chipset patches like a 4-n-1 or the like or features that will make it faster? Want this thing as stable as possible but still fast :)

P4 1.6A
MSI 845 Ultra ARU

You may consider the Chipset Inf drivers, but these are not needed.

The Microsoft drivers for the i8xx IDE perform very strongly in WinXP, so it's not necessary to install the Intel Application Accelerator drivers (until such time as Intel does manage to make it perform better).

Make sure your power supply has the extra four-pin connector for the motherboard.

you need to have the special atx12v 4 pin plug or no go with this board...only the asus ezplug that I know of allows you to use older style PS and the standard 4 pin connector that most of us know....
