Can it be done? I did it the other night, and had it running for a little bit fine, but after trying to update my vid drivers Win98 wont open in anything but safemode. I am looking for a clean install but am running a SCSI CDrom. I dont know how to boot up to the Win98 reapair install, or to install it over the top of itself.

It can, but it will prolly lead to more problems. A generl rule of thumb when installing mobos you always do a clean install to eliminate old motherboard drivers. It also helps performance out:).

BTW try General hardware forum.

It's bad news - I've done it before and it was nothing but one HUGE headache.

It works with Linux. Has for me at least. I installed Linux on one machine, but it broke down a bit later, so I stashed the HD's away and got rid of the computer (it was ancient). Few months later I installed those HD's to another machine with completely different hardware (MoBo was different, CPU was different (Pentium1 vs. Pentium Pro) etc. etc.), and booted it.... And the OS booted up like nothing had happened.

I would still do a re-install just to he sure though.

It's not that bad if you're not doing huge jump. If it's similar chipsets, then I'd say backup everything you deem important and try it. The worse that can happen is you end up just reinstalling anyway.

Give it up and reinstall everything. You'll spend less time with it in the long run. Besides, a fresh install is like ... umm.... good stuff.

it works, i did a p4 to an axp once, but you have to uninstall update # Q311967 (mup.sys) because itll cause your computer to hang on any mobo swap changes :|

works good with xp, all you have to do is run a repair, any other windows os is a bad idea
