Installing a German License Plate

My wife and I have decided to buy a 2007 VW Jetta Wolfsburg Edition. My wife is really excited as this will be her first new car. She was a teacher in Germany a couple years back and loved it.

She had asked me if it was possible to install a German License plate on the Jetta in addition to our NY plate. If it is possible where can I buy them (aside from ebay) and how do I install it...like where does it go and is it illegal to have?

If anyone has done it on here can you post your pictures?

Thanks!

in some states it is illegal to have them and all you get is a fine AFAIK. you can have them printed in germany and shipped here for like $30 - just check some place like vwvortex to find out where to get it done online. it will screw onto the car like any other license plate.

thanks for the reply. i just spoke to one of my co-workers and he said it was illegal in NY to have them. my wife said she would like to have it in the back window but I said that may look kinda strange.

thoughts/comments?

Just spray paint "This is a German car" on the side, same effect.

Barring that, get one of those oval stickers Text

haha...ill pass on the rice 😉
don't want any stickers on the car either

By putting all this german patriotism things on your car you are essentially proclaiming that you are not German. You never see germans fly flags like we do here unless it's world cup season. They are very sensitive about nationalism.

That wouldn't be rice, it would be schnitzel, or perhaps sauerkraut.

Yeah, my obligatory German friend wore a sweatshirt with a German flag on it, he was called a nazi many times over.
Nationalism in most of Europe can be a no-no these days.

Sorry about the sidetrack.
