Hello Guys!
Finally the parts for my new computer has arrived, thus I need help building it, here's the situation:
I ordered the following parts from newegg:
Chaintech VNF3-250, A64 2800+ Retail HSF, Corsair 512 Value Select PC3200 memory 2.5cas, Info-tek Radeon 9600 PRO (didn't have enuff money for the 9800 PRO) and NEC 3500A DVD burner.
I'm outside the US but my sister lives there, she sent the parts with a friend of hers that came to Venezuela. Also I think I should mention that the last computer I built was a P3-800 a long time ago, and I think a thing or two has changed since then.
Issue #1
I need to buy a case and PSU here (too big to bring it from the US) and by reading the Chaintech VNF3-250 manual I found out about the power connections and the 12V connector that's separate from the ATX power connector. Am I supposed to connect both ?. The Chaintech manual is not very clear on this matter, they just mention "the ATX 12V PSU has a new 12V 4pin connector..". Do I need to look for a ATX 12V PSU that comes with this "new" special connector ?. It's kinda difficult here to find quality PSU's, since most stores just sell a bundle of case+PSU. In fact I had to go to call to 3 different stores to find a case that has a 400W PSU (forget about 450W). I'll go today to that store to check the case+PSU, but it's until know that I've read about the 12V connector. I can tell you that most stores here just sell parts for Intel setups, so if this 12V connector is something particular to AMD's mobos I might be in trouble here.
Issue #2
Where can I find the settings for FSB, voltages, AGP etc. that I need to set up in the BIOS for my CPU-memory-video card ?. Or those settings are AUTO today ?. I will try to setup everything at stock speeds and stabilize the system before trying any overclock.
Issue #3
Since my sister had to stuff most things inside the mobo's box (mobo, cpu, memory, vid card) and all accesories and cables on a separate bag, I had to sort out everything when it arrived here. Inside the mobo's box its a small bag of thermal grease but I don't know if that came with the mobo or the CPU. Should I apply this thermal grease to the cpu's HSF fan or should I use only the thermal pad that's sticked to the hsf ?
What worries me the most right know is the 12V connector issue, if I don't buy the case+psu today I'll have to wait 'til next saturday to build my rig, since I'm too busy at the office on weekdays.
Any help will be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Quanta
