Installing a certificate class 1 for an excel macro

I received a class 1 certificate from Startcom. I did the best I could to use it to sign a VBA macro (using MMC). Excel strips the macro of the signature because "There is a problem with the digital certificate". Can somebody in this forum give me a step-by-step procedure or direct me to a place where I can find one?
