Installing a CDRW??

HI

Im installing a cdrw. I dont have a sound card. If im using the onboard sound do I need to use the cable? Im using a intel 865perl board.

Look in the manual. There should be a header to plug into on your mobo, then plug into the header and CDRW
Looks like it's in the bottom, left corner of the mobo and on page 14 of the manual.

Just to add on to what Oldsmoboat said, there's another way to do it without using the skinny CD-to-motherboard cable.

Right click My Computer. Manage\Device Manager.

Look under DVD/CDRom Drives. You'll see your drives there. Double click on each one and you'll see tabs. Choose Properties.

You'll see a little check box for "Enable Digital Audio For This Drive." Check that for all your drives. You'll have to reboot. What this does is let the regular IDE cable carry digital audio straight to the mobo w/o the additional cable.

Yeah, I quit hooking up the analog audio cables years ago (when I noticed Apple quit using them). I figure it's no big deal to transfer 150Kb/s over that part of the system. Plus technically the sound might be slightly better (I'm going digital all the way to my speakers).
