Installing a 7800GT

I just got my 7800GT from Dell.

I have a Voodoo 3 plugged in.

What steps do I take?

Correct me if I'm wrong:

1) Uninstall Voodoo 3 drivers
2) Unplug Voodoo
3) Boot up w/ 7800GT
4) Install Forceware.

Correct?

If you want to be extreme, follow the steps in my sig. Do all of that and you're pretty much guaranteed to have a clean installation. However, what you have in the OP should work fine.

(Am I correct in thinking you are going from a PCI Voodoo3 to a PCIe 7800GT? That's a looooong time between upgrades. Have fun with it!)

One wonders how he got ahold of a PCI-E Voodoo3 to begin with.

WOW...you are going to get a HUGE speed boost that most people will never feel. VERY nice might I add! Some people sit here swearing a breath of difference between cards in a gauche generation, and you waited 7 years or so...

No, just PCI Voodoo 3. Most newer mobos that are now shipping have both PCI and PCIe slots. What the OP is talking about is quiet possible; it's just a bit rare around these parts. 😉

For someone thats been on AT since 2001, and almost 1500 posts... u'd think theyd kno how to properly install a new vidcard, shame...
