Installing 1 GHz Athlon to Taisol HSF with thermal pad......advice needed...

I had heard through a friend, that there is a certain method to applying the thermal pad to the CPU properly and getting it to "gel" or melt onto it without causing heat issues. Forgive my ignorance, but some advice from anyone who has done this would help me out greatly. I dont wish to fry my T-bird as I just got the damn thing 🙂
