installed XP on my laptop but now i've lost my power saving and battery monitoring features

anyone else in the same boat?

it's a POS compaq 1201T(cel766/128mb) i got from work.....

now it thinks it forever on ac power, now matter what.

Each laptop has its own proprietary drivers and means for those functions. You need to contact Compaq and get their XP upgrade stuff . . . sometimes you can download it. If you did a clean install, that is not good on a laptop unless you have all those things pre-arranged.

You will probably have a hard time finding XP support right now, but if it is available, try the W2K power utilities. That is what I did with my Toshiba 490XCDT laptop, and it works great.
