Well I finally decided I would try and do something a little dificult in linux(red hat 6.2 if it matters) so I decided to try and install the new xfree86. I went to linuxnewbie and followed all of their directions and didn't run into any problems untill I had to run xf86config. Everthing was going well untill I got to the part where I had to select my video card its a v3 2000 one of the most popular cards out so I figured it would have to be on the list but its not. I don't get it. The red hat 6.1 install with the older xfree86 detects it just fine so it has to be supported so what I'am I suppost to do? I did back up my old version of xfree86, at least I hope I did. I did this
cd /
mkdir xbackup
cp /usr/X11R6 /xbackup -Rr
cp /etc/X11 /xbackup -Rr
but now I do not know how to reinstall the older version. I tried just reversing the source and destination but that didn't work. And to top it off after screwing my compter up to get xfree86 4.0 on I read at slashdot that 4.01 is out now
.
cd /
mkdir xbackup
cp /usr/X11R6 /xbackup -Rr
cp /etc/X11 /xbackup -Rr
but now I do not know how to reinstall the older version. I tried just reversing the source and destination but that didn't work. And to top it off after screwing my compter up to get xfree86 4.0 on I read at slashdot that 4.01 is out now
