Ok, so at the office we have a server (just a regular PC, really) where all our files are kept, and this thing is hooked up to a router along with my machine. The other machines are wireless. I had XP before and just like everyone else, was able to see the server on our network and access my files. However, upon installing Win7, I can no longer see the server and can't seem to figure out what the hell is wrong. I see a network, but my computer is the only thing listed on it. Can someone please help? I'm so screwed - I'm supposed to be working, but I've done nothing today because I can't get this thing to work.

go to your system properties and make sure the workgroup is the same as the network. When you installed Win 7 it asked for a workgroup (I think) if it didn't, just check to see what the server is. WORKGROUP is the default but a lot of people change theirs.

Maybe I can get it from one of the otner office PCs wirelessly connected to that network? Any idea how?

Where exactly do I change the workgroup? Can't seem to find the screen. Also, if the default name doesn't work, how do I find out from the other office PCs what the workgroup name is?

Turn on Network Discovery and all will be well.

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings

angrily call the IT guy and yell at him for your computer being broken. make sure to constantly convey how it is all the IT guys fault and not your own. the problem should resolve on its own shortly thereafter.

Funny because it's true.

If you installed Win7 on a work system with little clue about what you're doing, I'm assuming that you didn't backup your XP installation either.

So basically, you're screwed.

Follow randay's advice above. Remember you have to project that it's not your fault.
