Installed new video card and not getting a signal

I just received a new Sapphire HD5770 PCI-E card from Newegg and put it in my system which is running a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3. I previously was running a X1900 which worked fine so I feel like my motherboard and power supply can support the new card though admittedly I don't know if the new card is PCI-E 2.0 and if so, if my mb and PSU are compatible.

I have tried both DVI slots but not HDMI or DisplayPort. I suspect they'd be dead too. The CPU and graphics cards fans are on and audibly the system is booting correctly. That is, I get the beep, and the HD light is accessing then slows down, as if it booted into Windows OK but the monitor is not getting any sort of signal.

I removed the power cable and held down the power button to clear out any residual power. Then I shorted the CMOS pins to clear the BIOS.

None of this worked. Any advice or tips would be appreciated. I know one idea is that the card may be DOA. It's a possibility but I am really hoping that's not the case, not to mention I've never had a DOA device so I think it's the exception instead of the rule.

Re-insert it into the slot, make sure it is in firm.

Make sure external power connector is in firm as well.

Wait for more firm advise from others.

Yes, I connected the six pin PCI-E power cable. I also tried connecting a four pin molex to an adapter and using that, just in case the six pin suddenly went bad (I was using it in my old card just 30 mins prior). I also reseated it twice.

Update - I removed the motherboard battery and also cleared the memory manually by shorting the pins. I know they do the same thing but I wanted to take every precaution. Nothing. So not wanting to lose out on being able to use my PC, I put back the old video card. Guess what? Also no signal. I tried both DVI ports. I reseated the card a bunch of times. Nothing.

Then on a whim, this morning, I used a VGA to DVI adapter and plugged in a 10 year old 15" LCD and it worked. I put in the new card and it works too. How did my monitor suddenly die from the 10 mins it took me to power down, plug in a new card, and reboot?

I am going to try a new DVI cable tonight.

Boot. Hit monitor power button to manually bring it out of standby. If your monitor has a "source" button on it, cycle through to make sure it's reading off the correct input port.
