Hey guys,

I helped a friend replace his memory in his desktop, going from 2x256MB to 1x1024MB. System boots up fine and everything.

The only problem is that all of the sound in Windows is pretty much going at hyperspeed. In WMP and iTunes every song sounds like it's being performed by the Chipmunks.

Any idea what could have caused this, and how to fix it? It seems very bizarre to me.

Thanks,
Stew

Try it with the old RAM....if it still happens, then uninstall/reinstall the sound drivers.

Yes onboard sound.

Just 1 stick of RAM, so no dual channel goin' on.

I tried with the old RAM in the machine again, and the sound is normal. So, what's the problem with the new RAM?

But are their two channels? If so, try an old stick in one channel, new stick in other. Then switch. One of those configs may fix it.

That sounds pretty weird. Try and enter the BIOS, and choose save and exit. Do not touch anything in there, just get in, save, and exit again.
