I had two computers networked with a X-over cable. I set up a third computer and wanted it to be part of the network too.

So I got a router and connected all three. It wasn't seeing the third computer. but the two I had networked before worked fine and I could still share internet. Btw, I'm sharing a dial up connection.

So to fix the problem with not seeing the third computer I had to set the TCP/IP settings on all of the computers to obtain the IP address automatically. So my router did the rest and now the 3 PC's are successfully networked. On problem though, I lost the ability to access the internet from my other two computers.

One thing I noticed when I was changing the TCP/IP setting on the main computer that connects to the internet is there was an IP address already there. So when I changed the setting to 'obtain IP address automatically' it got rid of that one of course.

Could that have anything to do with not being able to get an internet connection now?

My dial up connection is still set to 'shared' and all of my previous settings.

Future upgrade purposes.

All I need is the switch really... But since I plan on getting broadband at some point (when I move) I'll already have a router.

I'm just not using the port for WAN on the router.

ICS is trying to to the DHCP function, and so is your router. Since the router isn't the gateway, the other computers don't know where to access the Internet. Turn off the DHCP server on the router and let the computer running ICS assign the IP addresses.

Ok, I turned off DHCP on the router.

Nothing else has changed though, how do I let the computer running ICS assign the IP addresses?

Right now all the computers are set to obtain an IP address automatically.

Nevermind, I just ran the network setup again on each PC after disabling DHCP on the router.

Thanks for the help, I can now get internet access from each PC.

One thing though, I used to be able to enter an IP address into my browser to access the routers settings and everything, but now when I use that IP address it cant find the page. How am I going to be able to change the routers setting from now on?
