I had two computers networked with a X-over cable. I set up a third computer and wanted it to be part of the network too.
So I got a router and connected all three. It wasn't seeing the third computer. but the two I had networked before worked fine and I could still share internet. Btw, I'm sharing a dial up connection.
So to fix the problem with not seeing the third computer I had to set the TCP/IP settings on all of the computers to obtain the IP address automatically. So my router did the rest and now the 3 PC's are successfully networked. On problem though, I lost the ability to access the internet from my other two computers.
One thing I noticed when I was changing the TCP/IP setting on the main computer that connects to the internet is there was an IP address already there. So when I changed the setting to 'obtain IP address automatically' it got rid of that one of course.
Could that have anything to do with not being able to get an internet connection now?
My dial up connection is still set to 'shared' and all of my previous settings.
