Installed new RAM in my MBP and it just beeps at me

I bought 2x4GB DDR3 PC3 8500 Mushkin RAM from Newegg to put ion my C2D MBP. After install it just beeps at me which I discovered with some quick googling means that the memory isn't passing the power-on test. Which can either be caused by incompatible memory or incorrectly seated memory.

So I took the chips out, reseated and rebooted and still the same result. So I put my original chips back in and the MBP fired up perfectly.

So I guess this means my memory is no good for the MBP? Is there any way to confirm and get around this?

If not I guess I'll have to order from somewhere like OWC or similar?

Thanks.

No, you don't need special Mac RAM.
What is the specs on the RAM that is currently in your MBP?
Aside from the capacity, does the new RAM match said specs?
What year MBP do you have?
Are you sure that it supports 8GB?

The specs match. The speed and (as far as I can tell) CAS levels are the same.

When I go onto Apple's site it offers to sell me an 8GB kit (my laptop came with 4GB). I have a 2.5Ghz C2D from last summer.

I will try a single stick.

Definitely try a single stick, and if that doesn't work, then see if you can return it, maybe it was bad from the factory, it does happen.
