Hi,
I installed some new RAM, first unplugging the power supply, removing the old and then the new etc...
Now windows wont load up at all, even with the old ram back in...!

Its only going up from 3gb to 4gb (taking out the 2x 512MB RAM and replacing it with 2x of the same make 1GB RAM)

Its windows Vista 32 bt...have tried physically unplugging the hard drive and then switching it back on and nothing :(

When I go into F10..BIOS?...its rec ognising the new RAM, and everything else but not the hard drive at all....(it was a partitioned drive - d: being recovery...but also not there...in the blue/grey text bit...think thats the BIOS...)

Can anyone please help or advise me as to what it could be or what I could do??.....shouldnt have done this just before going to bed!!

as long as it wasn't an OCZ drive, perhaps you should go over the bios settings and make sure something didn't get reset like sata port disable/ AHCI/RAID/IDE mode etc.

Sometimes pc's are weird and they reset their bios settings. I had a box that had a bad cmos battery and only when it was unplugged would everything reset back to defaults in the bios. odd but consistent. Probably why the box was 90% off ;)

Buggy sandforce drives and OCZ drives liked to die/freeze up to a point where they no longer function. Not sure if they ever fixed that problem with that generation of sandforce

You tried reseating both the sata cable and power to the HDD? Did you try reseating it at the motherboard?

Cool! -just like that it is sorted! :)

Did a diagnostic on it all (f9) (RAM, CARD, DRIVE), all ok, then when loading up again, just went to boot options and the drive was there and it loaded up...very slowly...but it all seems ok...big stressy fuss over nothing :p

How do you reset the sata HDD cables??...is it just unplugging them and then putting them back in??

I think youre right Emulex, its a buggy drive and unplugging them might have helped...its a seagate barracuda 7200 or something I think

Thank you for for the VERY fast tips and advice -can sleep peacefully now its ready for job hunting tomorrow :D

Thanks!

hmm.. mbhurri, I am not sure if you are using SSD / HDD. This seems to be common with SSD drives. good that it is resolved for you :)
