Ok... it was decided my system needed a new power supply. So I swing over to Best Buy and grab a new 350w one.

I get home, and install it properly (or so I think).

The power goes on fine, but almost immediately I smell something burning. Then I could've sworn I heard something crackling in there so I got scared and killed the power to the PC.

Now... when I try to boot it up, I don't even get a single beep out of the PC! It's just sitting there... dead. I think.

What did I do? I think I fryed out the mobo/processor, but how?

Where do I go from here... any way I can fix this without having to grab a new mobo or something? Is the information on my harddrive safe? Or are any other components damaged?

Thanks

Just to be sure did you check the power switch on the back of the Power supply? Should be on 115volt but it may have been set to 220volt. That could have cause a system fry.

It's 115V.

Was there any special way I was supposed to connect all the power supply wires to the mobo, HDD's, etc.? Because I kinda just stuck them arbitrarily in there, using the old "hmmm, this connector looks like it should fit" method.

I'm not an idiot or anything so I didn't just jam huge-ass connectors into little sockets, but could that have been the reason my system burned out?

What should I do now?
