Installed new nvidia beta video drivers

Hey, when I started up HL2: Ep1 for the first time Steam warned me that my graphics drivers were out of date. So before my next session I decided to update to the latest (beta) drivers from nvidia.

Now when I boot up in Windows, my screen goes dark (like in sleep mode or something) I hear the welcome chime, a "new hardware" balloon pop and a Windows error message. I have no idea how to fix this... any tips?
