Hello there. So I recently took the advice from you guys and decided on the gtx960, 2 extra sticks of ram, and a heat sink. After installing all of them, my monitor will not display anything and reads 'no signal', so I reinstalled the original card, and now still 'no signal'

I was careful to install everything correctly, i dont see any damage, the cables are all secure, no idea why the new GTX960 wont work now, let alone the old one. I read online that i need to set my Bios to auto..

any ideas? Id like to get this up and running Asap!
Thank you!

Sounds like the new ram is the problem. Try it without the new ram in and try reseating it.

also, my power supply has 2 cables that could potentially work with this card, one is a 6 pin, the other is a 6 pin with a separate 2 pin connected to it. The card is an 8 pin. Right now im using the 6 pin cable with an adapter that came with the card to make it work with the 8 pin card. Or, I can try the 6 + 2 pin, and go without the adapter.

which is better?

Go without the adapter.

As for your RAM, it could be a few things. Some motherboards are finicky when it comes to having all RAM slots filled. I'd try replacing the old RAM with the new RAM and see how everything runs, just to see if the new RAM is defective, or if your motherboard is having issue with all 4 slots.

Edit - Also, try what the ASUS rep says in the Newegg review for your motherboard (showed up as first review for me, but might not for you):

ASUS Rep said:
Regarding your motherboard, the M4A785T-M, can you try using the 3rd stick of memory (in your 3x2GB kit) in the other slots, preferably in the slot where the other two sticks worked? This will verify that the 3rd stick is not defective. Also, please use either of the 2 sticks of ram into the 3rd or 4th slot and test if you are able to POST.

Were any new hardware/software installed before BSOD? Has it always occurred or only after a certain period? Please try restore your OS to a previous restore point, running a virus scan, run a memtest on your memory (at least 7-8 passes.

You can try clearing CMOS to load BIOS defaults. Turn off the computer. Turn the switch on the back of the power supply to OFF. On the lower right corner of the motherboard is a jumper marked "CLRTC", move the jumper from positions 1 and 2 to 2 and 3. Wait about 10 seconds, and move the jumper back to positions 1 and 2. Power on the computer.

As a last option, do a clean install of the OS with only minimal parts, CPU, single stick of memory and video card and see if the stystem still BSOD.

When you add new RAM to an old PC, you have to make sure the slots are clean. What steps did you take to ensure all the dust and grime was off the contacts of the DIMM sockets?

Also listen for any beep codes from the motherboard. Usually if theres a RAM short or a boot failure it will beep.

Different patterns of beeps mean different things, consult the motherboard manual.
