Installed my printer in OSX

Installed OSX in December, haven't had my printer connected in a year or so. I've been in Win 7 for a few days recently and spent some time getting my printer driver to install and work. Not hard but multiple steps. I forgot the printer was on and booted into OSX and it said "found Canon ip4000 printer" And asked if I wanted to install the drive, I clicked yes and my printer's up and running with me doing nothing. Why the hell can't Windows do this?

I <3 Snow Leopard.

Because it's windows! 🙂

(seriously, though, I think it because OS X just had your printer in it's archive of included printer drivers).

Vista and Windows 7 do this (printer drivers are readily available in Windows Update, if not already on the existing installation, or were taken out by users using vLite) and even XP (printers made before they were released and included in the installation).

My Brother, HP and Canon printers all got installed by the OS as soon as they were plugged in.

Yea.. this is true. My Canon Pixma gets installed as soon I plug it into Windows 7, same for Snow Leopard.
