Installed DX8.1, now all is fscked up :-(

Problems problems problems.

Running W2K on Celeron 500 with GF2MX400 PCI. Installed DirectX 8.1 and now NFS Porsche 2000 has serious artifacts.
Another MS downgrade :|

What to do?

It's really funny you experienced the same problem I did today with NFS5 Porsche Unleashed. Okay, it's not that funny. The solution that worked for me was to play it in Win98 which also has the latest DirectX 8.1b as my Win2000 does. I hope that this is a workable solution for you. I noticed that Half-Life doesn't work on my Win2k either, so I remain dual boot. In any case games work faster in Win98 also, so if you have a Win98 install disc from a dead or dying computer that may be your best bet.

No, W98 is no solution for me. I have W98 first edition but it's not installed. Tricky to make dual boot after W2K is installed.

Aaarghh. MS never learn to make trouble free upgrades. I'm seriously tired of it. Now my system is all screwed up and I need to reinstall W2K with DX8.0.
I don't want to to this.

Hang in there pal. I have seen DX uninstallers on the web. I'll go searching for one RIGHT now. I suggest you do the same.

I'll post back with my findings.

Good luck!

Hope this works. Also, BE CAREFUL!

EDIT #2:
Be sure to install the latest DX8.x after you remove the beta DX.
