I was running short on hard drive space, and since I am running a SFF, that meant losing the 30GB IDE maxtor I had. I replaced it with a 250GB SATA Samsung. I also have a WD Rator 36GB.

I had the maxtor setup as the master and the DVDRW as slave on the same cable. When I removed the maxtor I switched the DVDRW to to master on its own cable.

Now a DVD rom shows up in My Computer, but no disk autoplays from that drive and even with a disk in there, double clicking the Icon for the drive asks you to insert a disk.

When I right click/properties and go to the hardware tab, it shows up as a DZ9024N BXF252F SCSI CdRom Device. Type is DVD/CDROM. I am not totally sure, but I thought before that it listed it as a samsung or whatever type of drive it is

Let me know if you need any more info. And yes I did check all my cable connections already, what next.

Just checked and the drive doesn't show up in the bios

Put it back the way it was to make sure it didnt jsut die in the process of the swap, if it works again the way it used to be then the drive IS good, and something the way you have it configured is mucking it up

Hi, If you changed the cable when you installed the new drive maybe you had a Cable Select (CS) cable. Some will not let you run with MASTER/SLAVE settings. Both devices on a cable have to be set to CS. One tip off is that the three connectors are color coded. Position on the cable determines which is C: and which is D: etc. Luck, Jim
