installed a new hard drive and my system has gone to crap

i installed a new hard drive into my computer into the raid controller cos i have no more available slots on any other ide controllers...i was under the impression that i could put a hard drive on that controller and have it function not as a raid drive

well i hooked it up and winxp detected it but what i found out was that i have sound but no sound when i start up my ati aiw...whenever i try to capture or watch tv i get no sound...i checked all the sound control panels and rescanned the channels on my tv card but nothing...it seems weird to me that a new hard drive would affect the sound

second, i have win2k on my computer as well without the highpoint drivers...i installed those before i put in this new hard drive and all of the sudden all my drives and optical devices were identified as scsi....

what is going on?? i don't want to reformat unless i really have to

:frown:😕

anybody? seems like a strange question but i want to know if anybody has heard of this before i reformat

it would seem as though this is more of a hardware issue, like my output cable going into the soundcard is screwed up...but it seems unlikely

then again, when this was all going down last night the svchost.exe thing got my computer and i though i had really serious problems...i had no idea about the svchost thing and i though plugging in another hard drive was taking too much power so my computer wanted to shutdown...😱
