My specs
Old processor i5 6400
New i5 9600k
Mb gigabyte ga-z170- gaming 5
Gpu rtx2060
Psu 500
So I installed a the new i5 9600k and the computer won’t boot up. The fans turn on for about 2 seconds then power down and if I repeat that process 4 times on the 5th try it eventually powers up the fans and the lights in the case. But my monitors, keyboard and mouse won’t detect the computer. So after all this I reinstalled my old cpu the computer powered up and worked fine. Also tried booting up with 1 ram stick in. If anyone has any ideas that would be great thank you

Your motherboard does not support the CPU, that's why it's not booting. The best CPU you can put in a Z170 motherboard is the 7700K, and even that will require a BIOS update most likely.

Yeah. new 8th, 9th, and 10th-Gen Core CPUs do NOT work in the original 100-series and 200-series chipset motherboards (even though the CPUs fit - I blame Intel for not changing the notches), you need a "1151 300-series" motherboard, such as a Z370 or Z390.
