installed a new cd deck in my car, radio won't turn on...

used this guide to install it, everything works but the damn radio doesn't turn on.

i'm guessing it's not grounded properly...do i actually have to ground the radio to the chasis? (i just crimped all the "ground" wires together and that was that).

This is a '99 Civic EX btw.

You do you have a multimeter? Check for power, and check continuity on the ground.

Edit: eh..yeah, fuse would be first. 😱

usually it will still power up even if not grounded. Make sure ou have good connections on your crimps. it's easy to get a wire loosen up while installing.

How is it gonna power up without being grounded?

yeah, i guess I should have said well grounded. If there is ANY kind of grounding going on....even if the wire is touching the firewall, it will work, but if it's hanging loose it won't

he said he'd crimped the ground wires together, so even if it's a terrible connection, it will normally power up.

Is the antenna plugged in?

thanks guys, i checked the fuse and it looked ok...just to make sure i ripped out the one from the cig lighter and put it into the radio slot (both 10A) but still no luck..

i'll take it apart again, try grounding it to the chasis in addition, and if it doesn't work it'll have to wait till tomorrow 🙁

P.S. i hate my neighbors, anytime i even walk outside MY house they come outside and stare...bastards have been doing this for years.

i disconnected my negative cable, only because i'm paranoid of getting my ass electrocuted...

anyway, i decided to start my car and give it a shot, whaddya know, the radio worked! guess i have my crappy battery to thank for this.

Yeah but my battery is REALLY bad. After I put the dash back together (a chore with my car), with the car in ACC mode I:

(1) tried the wipers - they didn't work.
(2) put my lights on - when I did this the radio stopped working.

I then started my car and the problem disappeared. Looks like I better buy a new battery this week.

that shouldn't be the battery. You must have some other electrical issue.

if your battery had so little juice it couldn't run the radio there is no way it could have then started your car...even with your coke bottle engine.

You think so? It's possible I guess...last time my mechanic took a look at it, he said the battery was a goner (hence the reason for weak starts on my car).

I did notice some weird stuff though when you guys told me to check the fuses -- all the fuses had burnt terminals, and the 'Security' fuses were of the wrong spec (10A instead of 3A). No wonder my last radio kept shutting off randomly and going into security mode. The last owner must've been a complete idiot.
