I just installed a 200 gig drive in my XP box but I'm only showing 128gig in windows. Did I do something wrong? I know the allotted space would be less than 200gig but where the hell is almost 75gig disappearing to?

Make sure you have SP1 or SP2 installed. If you do, go to control panel, admin options, and format the rest as another partition.. should show up there. If not, make sure your BIOS is up to date and you have the latest drivers from your manufacturer.

A "200GB" drive really means 200 billion bits because of marketing speak. Which means you're really only getting 186.26GB of real space. So if the total space in the two partitions is 186GB, you're OK.. just curse the jerks who decided to short change us on hard drive space.

How do I check to see what SP is installed? I can't remember the command I used to run from the "run" line.

thanks fellas

I bought 2 200gig drives, the 2nd one I installed in another machine picked up the right size. It had SP1 installed, so I guess all I need to do is install SP1 on the other PC.
