I installed an SATA Seagate 160gb hard drive as the main hard drive on my friend's box. I installed Windows XP Home on it, the limit being 136gb at the time of installation. I also installed the 48-bit reg edit from Seagate. I can't figure out how to get it to recognize as 160gb. What's the trick here?

I installed SP2 but there isn't any partition. Physical drive size is shown as 127gb.

ah, I see it. Since it's the main drive, I'd like to use the whole thing as a single partition instead of splitting it, is there any way to do this?

Why not just split it and use it for mp3 or image files?
You'll still read it in xp. Go to disk management and format it for fat32 or ntfs.

If you want to use it as a single drive, and use the full size of the partition, make sure LBA is enabled in bios, and you'll want to slip stream your windows CD with SP1 or SP2. You may also be able to use seagates drive utilities to partition the full drive before trying to install windows.

probably because 160 giggers just reached an awesome price point.

You'll need a program like Partition Magic at this point (unless you want to reformat and reinstall). You could also back up with Norton Ghost (or equivalent) and then restore the backup after you reformat it properly -- but then you need somewhere to put the contents of your HD. :p
