Ok, so I bought a 6800 and popped it in my computer tonight. That thing is as big as an oceanliner....

Anyways, I previously had a ti4200 in my computer and installed both the latest nvidia drivers (61.77) and directx (9.0c) before I popped in the 6800. So now that I got the 6800 card in and everything seems fine when I'm doing normal stuff like browse the net and whatnot (it also detected the new card and did some magic there)... However, whenver I run doom3 I'm only getting 29 fps in timedemo w/ 640X480 on low settings. There is obviously something not right here...

Should I reinstall 61.77? Is it ok to do that?

Did you use driver cleaner before you installed 61.77? There is something strange here, but I'm sure there's a simple explanation for it.

What OS are you using, WinXP? What motherboard, RAM, CPU?

That's weird, I just installed a 6800GT over a Ti4200, I went from the 61.76s to the 61.77s and the thing works like a charm. I did have some trouble with Doom 3 acting weird because of the conflicting settings in my DoomConfig (namely, the game was using the settings it had set for my 4200), so I deleted it and restarted Doom to get a fresh, properly-optimized DoomConfig file.
It's definitely odd that your 6800NU is performing so terribly though, it should be in the 60s at 1024x768 with medium quality textures... I'd say reinstall your drivers too, it seems like the drivers aren't quite sure what to do with your card; does it list your card in your display adapter properties? If it doesn't, you'll have to reinstall the 61.77s so the computer knows what your card is.

Yes, sure does.

Now about this deleting the DoomConfig... I can just delete the file and it will automatically recreate a new one?

Yeah, Doom automatically creates files the first time you use them. If you've never used the DoomEdit program before, you'll see a file called "Editor" after you load it up the first time. It'll also recalculate the quality settings based on your new hardware when you hit "find optimal settings" in the System menu and save those to the config file.

OK, I let d3 create a new DoomConfig file, however when I run "find optimal settings" in-game, it still gives me 640X480 on low settings. odd.

That's definitely strange, and not working right at all. Your CPU is about the same as mine (2.4C to my 3200+) and my GT qualifies me for high-quality mode at 12x10 with a smooth 57-60fps spread. You're not bottlenecked anywhere I can see... I'm out of ideas, to be honest; did you reinstall the 61.77 drivers yet?

u see this all the time in the forum, but the 6800's absolutely need 256 meg agp aperature, change in bios. are all other benches/games fine? you should be getting around ~8000-10000 in 3dmark03.
