Installation question, simple one

What is the difference between a full install and an upgrade. I was thinking of installing windows XP but I dont have the time to reformat and do all that stuff. I know I could do an "upgrade", but what is that exactly? What is the difference between that and a full install? Thanks in advance.🙂

Basically upgrade is asking for trouble usually although microsoft may have surprised us all and made the upgrade more stable than before. You really are better off to format wherever you're going to install xp. XP on a newly formatted hard drive is awesome. I give Microsoft credit for finally making a stable operating system! Its about time!
