Hi everyone! My sister's laptop has been having some problems.
Yesterday, my sister told me that Windows XP kept crashing. I checked the Event Viewer and realised that Symantec Antivirus was the cause of it. She said that she had tried installing the program after unstalling it. However, after reinstalling it, the program wouldn't start.
After I uninstalled the program, Windows XP stopped crashing.
Today, I tried installing Zonealarm. However, after installing ZA, I couldn't open it. The crashing problems recurred. MS Office couldn't work either.
For some reason, nothing seems to be able to get installed properly.
In the end, I uninstalled ZA. However, the crashing problems persisted. I suspect that some ZA stuff was not removed. I couldn't get the task manager to work. Even when I tried msconfig, the program appeared for a second before disappearing.
In the end, I started Win Xp in safe mode. I was able to use msconfig and task manager. I chose a diagnostic startup.
In diagnostic startup mode, everything worked properly. However, I can't seem to burn her data. I know a reformat is inevitable given the horrible condition her laptop is in. However, I need to backup her data.
1) Can I actually burn stuff when I use a diagnostic startup?
2) Is there any way to get rid of ZA fully?
Thanks everyone!
