[FONT=Arial, sans-serif]I would like to use XP Mode.

I have Win 7/Pro x64 installed, authenticated, and running

Here are my system specs that might apply to my problem:

Board: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. GA-EP35-DS3P
BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. F6 06/18/2009
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4 GHz) Quad Core
Controller: Intel P-35 ICH9R Controller 82801IR with AHCI and RAID Support
Sapphire Radeon HD 3870 PCIe 512 MB
2 x Crucial 4GB Kit (2GBx2) DDR2 (PC2-6400) DIMM 240-Pin Desktop Memory Modules CT2KIT25664AA800

My BIOS (Advanced BIOS Features) shows that Intel Virtualization Technology.is enabled.

I downloaded and installed XP Mode and it was saved to "Program Files." I then downloaded and installed Windows Virtual PC (I've seen some posts claiming that it should have already been installed as I used a DigitalRiver SP1 ISO as the basis of my installation. It created the folder Program Files (x86)/Windows Virtual PC.

[FONT=Arial, sans-serif]So I found that I had XP Mode under “Program Files” and not under "Program Files (x86)/Windows Virtual PC.

I dragged the entire XP Mode folder to the latter.

I tried to open XP Mode and the system started to do the whole download from MS again, so I stopped and came here.

Are there some entries elsewhere that don't get moved with the files themselves, registry entries or .ini file entries?

Do I need to do a complete uninstall and reinstall of XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC? I still have the downloaded installation file for XP Mode that worked, I just don't want to dig a deeper hole than I already have.

Thanks,

baumgrenze

Why did you move the folder? Why not just move it back to where it was before?

I think I'm missing something from your post.

I solved this by uninstalling both the XP Mode and Virtual Machine programs and then following, very carefully, the tutorial on sevenforums.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/8247-windows-xp-mode-install-setup.html

It works now, but it is 'funky.' The 'font size' on all the icons on the desktop or in drop-down menus is so small that I almost need a magnifying glass to read what is there.

Also, I use my mouse on the left side of the keyboard. It leaves my right hand free to use the keypad, and, sketching is a 'right-brain' activity that is best done by the left hand. Sometimes my button settings seem to work properly, sometimes they are reversed, as though I booted in 'safe-mode' and my settings were not yet installed.

I tried using XP Mode to open programs I used to use under XP/Pro on the same disk I used to run them, the one with the OS and programs installed on it. Autosketch could not find a driver and PSE and Acrobat 8 asked politely that I reinstall them. Each step of this migration is bigger than I anticipated.

I seem to have carefully sequestered the installation CDs for my legacy software, Acrobat 8 Professional, Autosketch, and PSE 6. Next I get to go on a scavenger hunt to find where I carefully hid them so that they would be 'easy to find' when I next needed them. I have all the disks for my Win98 software!

Thanks,

Aha! I found the software.

Can anyone help me with making the Windows Explorer and the Desktop large enough to be readable.

My mouse reports as PS/2 compatible (BelArc Profile.) It is clearly stuck in default mode with the buttons reversed from my normal use.

Thanks,
