my quesiton is: (car is an Accord DX 1999 model- now don't rag on the DX...it perfectly fits my budget though i admit i'm most pbly the only one in the US to drive the Dx model)

question: I have the factory in Dash player..... was wondering how to install a CD in-dash player..... is there kits that are sold to put it right under the casset in-dash player, or do i hav to take the in-dash player totally out and install the Cd player alone byitself? Claims of installation with picture scans would be preffered....thx

Do you want to keep the indash cassette? If not, it would be easiser to remove it entirely. If you don't, do you have room for the CD player as well? And if you don't, you would probably have to put some type of switching system in to switch between the two units for the speakers, power, etc. I have a VW Jetta that came with turner/cassette. VW made a special in dash CD only player that interfaced to the existing unit with a simple cable connect. So now I have CD and cassette along with the tuner. Very easy installation but a rather expensive CD drive only, however it does match the color scheme and wiring was easy.

If you go for removing the existing cassette, when I have done this in the past, I went to Walmart and got a panel adapter kit and a wire adapter kit. The panel adapter makes it easier to get the CD player to interface physically in the hole in the dash. Still requires a little kludging to get it in, but looks fairly professional when done. The wire adapter is hard wired to the CD player, I usually solder the wire into place, and then a mating plug just plugs into the car wiring. About as easy as it gets and makes future removals easy as well as not cutting into the car wiring.

Anyway, these kits help but you will still have your work cut out for you.
