Trying to install xp on an ssd for another laptop to get the w8 upgrade. I think I've aligned my ssd, but the xp install doesn't see the hdd. I don't see any options to change the device from IDE to AHCI(?) in my BIOS. I have the following BIOS ver.: 89.5KBC ver.: 7423 I think it's Phoenix.

Any help would be appreciated. I've tried using the w7 disc I have to run a partition but I'm pretty noob at partitions etc.

like I said when I try to do a fresh install xp doesn't see the ssd. I can install w7 just fine but I've already used the w7 for another w8 upgrade.

He's saying install Win8 straight. XP is probably missing drivers, so you'd need to load them when starting the install.

Not sure I follow. You have a machine with XP, right? Wipe the XP drive(which you've done), then install Win8 to the clean drive using the upgrade media.

No I have an xp disc, i was going to install xp on to an ssd to qualify for the upgrade. I already upgraded one of my machines to w8, now i'm trying to do another. My problem is installing xp onto the ssd, then upgrading.

Ok, looking online, it appears MS has borked the clean install routine. Reports are mixed of it working ok. I was assuming you could still do that. Look into adding drivers on a disc when XP asks you. 'm not sure which drivers, but that should get you close for searching...

I don't know why MS has to be such a dick about things. It seems like they try to see how much they can abuse their customers, and have people keep coming back :^S

Edit:
Check this out for trying a clean install. If it doesn't work, you're only out a bit of time...
