install winxp faster from usb or cdrom?

hi

i have a tradition way to store my windows xp pro in a cdrom.

is it faster to have it store in USB stick drive?
i mean when i install windows, is it faster and more reliable on usb drive?

confusing?

may be i should've asked the transfer rate for a usb drive and a cdrom.
so which one faster wins the installing race.

copying setup & installation files from usb/cd-rom takes about 1 minute. you won't save much either way.

I believe the OP is trying to ask whether installing a fresh install of XP (or any other OS for that matter) is faster from a CD-ROM or from an USB-drive, such as USB memory stick.

Theoretical max transfer speed of USB2 device is almost eight times as much as a CD/DVD-drive that can keep up constant 52x reading speed. In practice, USB2 devices are much faster to install an operating system from than CD-/DVD-disc.

It is WAY faster to install it from a USB 2.0 high speed flash disk than CD-ROM/DVD. Of course if you install it from a hard disk or network share you'll get decent speed improvements also.
