I am building a new system with a Serial ATA hard drive. The motherboard is an ASUS M2A-VM (Athlon 64 X2) . In the motherboard manual it states "Install Windows XP Sevice Pack 1 before using Serial ATA". How am I supposed to do that when I have to use serial ATA to write to the Serial ATA hard drive ?

I am seriously considering just getting an old IDE style drive in order to avoid any possible headaches.

Having a slipstreamed XP Install CD is pretty much mandatory nowadays anyway, since the original XP (not SP1 or SP2) can't fully use any hard drive larger than 137GB. If you install a pre-SP1 XP onto a large hard drive, you'll end up having to create two partitions in order to utilize all its space.

I am sorry I did not mention my copy of Windows XP already has service pack 2. I take it that means I will have no problems ?

I just don't see how I can install to a device that is not supposed to work until the instalation has been done.
