Install Windows on a single-disk system then upgrade to RAID1 later?

I'm thinking about using the P8Z77M/-PRO board (haven't decided which), and I am thinking of putting in a single SSD into it to begin with and would like to pair it up later without the fuss of a reinstall. Has anyone managed this?

Admittedly I also haven't decided to use Win2k3 or Win2k8 Server, but the result of this thread might help decide that - if people have managed it on one version of Windows or another, I would like to know.

Depends on the controller, but I think most of even the cheapo on-board controllers let you convert to/from a mirror without a rebuild of the array.

The version of Windows is largely irrelevant as long as the drivers work properly, but using a server version of windows for a desktop is pretty pointless and will likely cause you more headaches than benefits.

I seem to remember the Intel Rapid Storage driver allows you to do this. But don't quote me on that... :hmm:
