Install Win98 without floppy

Hi folks, Ive got an old laptop withOUT the ability to boot from cd. It currently has windows 95 installed, and I would like to install windows 98. I cant get the floppy drive to work with it so I need some advice.

Ive tried restarting into DOS-MODE loading the cdrom drivers and installing, but it says it cannot be run under win95.

I cant even do an upgrade install (not that I want to do that, fresh install is better) because ive got Win98 SE which cant upgrade from 95 apparantly (ive tried).

Any advice?

wow, been a while since i did this last.. But on my DELL P233 lappy(which i don't have a floppy drive for), I ended up taking the HDD out of the lappy and installing it into another desktop machine with an adapter. I then formatted the drive bootable and then copied the contents of the Win98cd (i386 folder i believe) to that HDD. put the hdd back into the lappy, booted it up, changed directory to the folder where the files were copied, then entered "setup" (without qoutes).. it took off from there.. Like i said, it's been a while since i did that, but it works. may have to do a google search on what commands to use to copy all files to the HDD from the CD. i forgot. sorry. hope this helps some. You could also put it into a desktop and go thru the entire setup and when windows wants to re-boot, you shut down the pc and put the HDD back into the laptop.. that works also. (just remembered that one.
