I have 3 + 1 coming computers with Win2k.... Is it better to install Win2k + Whatever SPs...patches, etc with ACPI and Plug and Play OS [IN THE BIOS] or No ? 1 of them is a VIA 133a Chipset, SIS735 and AMD 266... another 4th computer with VIA 266a. I noticed in the SIS735 Computer (ECS K75SA) that when I have the PNP OS and ACPI... immediately Ultra DMA is enabled and all the IRQs were set right. On the KT133a.... It was not enabled and the HAL is Standard PC..... all IRQ, hardware were also set up right... then I had to manually install lots and lots of patches to make my SB Live, patches for enabling UDMA ATA100, etc.... I wonder if enabling these 2 in the BIOS would be good and why and why not ? Takers... GURUS ? On the 8k7A+ I had it enabled [Plus and PLay OS + ACPI] UDMA ATA100 speed up like an Dream Arabian Horse on the IBM 60GXP 1.4 YHXIOSISKJDon'tcarewhat o/c to 1.54 something well. Ideas ?

My FAQ contains a brief explanation of the advantages of ACPI under Win2K.

ATA100 is not "enabled" for w2k until you apply SP2 or the hotfix before SP2 was realeased. I don't think it has anything to do with ACPI.

Some people disabled ACPI because they are having "issues" with their SBLive including myself which went away after disabling ACPI. Basically you can install with ACPI if SBLive plays up and you have exhausted all other forms of fixes then reinstall without ACPI.
