Can I install win2k over win98se on compaq presario 1255 laptop? Right now it is running win98se and it does not come with orginal compaq cd. Will it run slow? I have installed 128MB memory and now has 160mb total memory.
Your help is great apprectied.

It should run just fine. However, before installing Win2K, be sure to download the drivers that you will need from Compaq and download SP4 for Win2K.
It will run, but don't expect great things from it.
Turn off all uneeded SERVICES and as much of the Bells & Whistles as you can.
With the K6-2 333MHz CPU a better choice may be WinME or just UPDATE WIN98SE
with the Win98SE UNOFFICIAL SERVICE Pack (it gives the GUI the 2000 look and feel).
Thank you to guys I think I have to stick with win98se because there is no drivers for win2kpro so can't risk it without compaq restore CD. I thought it would be cool if Linux can run this baby. The reason I wanted to install win2kpro is because I am tired of IE6 crashed every time I surf. So I decided to try Firefox (I don't like it but no choice) broswer but it is slow to load up with 160MB ram. oh well. I am afraid Firefox might eat up so much memory resource. IE6 loads faster than Firefox. oh well that is my one cent.
But thanks anyway.
