my laptop is running Win Me. the cd-rom drive is dead but i do have network access. there is two partitions on the harddrive.

is it possible to share the cd-rw drive on my desktop, stick my winxp cd in there, copy the shared cd to the 2ndary partition on my laptop, and install win xp off the harddrive?

It might work if you copy the Win XP cd to the 2nd part and then install. Otherwise, it might be very slow.

Hi On the network copy the folder I386 from the WinXP CD to the second partition of your laptop, D:. Then if you intend to install XP instead of ME I suggest you format C: so boot by a floppy and then from A run Format c:. Then run A: smartdrv.exe, (because otherwise it will take ages to install), change to D:\I386, and then run Winnt.exe. Hope you got the gist of what I mean.
