Install Win 8.1 with 8 key?

Not during installation. You need a generic key during installation (google for it), that will allow you to continue and finish the setup process and then you can use your Windows 8 key to activate the 8.1 OS afterwards.
 
When you first start the setup, you need to enter a default installation key which is not really a key you can activate, it is simply a key used for installation sake. then when you are in Windows, you can use your real product key to activate it.

Google it, default installation keys, there are a few depending on which flavor of Windows 8.1 you are installing (ie. Windows 8.1 Core or Windows 8.1 Pro or Windows 8.1 Single Language, etc.)

Considering all you need is your Windows 8 key, yes. The "slow" way would be installing Windows 8, activating it and using the store to download and install the 8.1 upgrade. This is arriving at the same result in a faster and simpler way.
