Install W2K Upgrade on a Bare HD?

Quick question, I can buy the academic version of W2K Pro at school but it says it is an 'upgrade'. Can I install this on a bare HD that has no OS on it (Windows ME will get wiped off before install)? I am asking as I have a new VAIO that shipped with Windows ME, which flat out sucks ass, and I want to replace it. Sony could do it at the factory as it shipped pre configured.

Thanks!

If it says 'upgrade' then that is what it is, and so - NO.
As much as I hate micro$oft, try win98se.
Better than DOS! just :|

If you get the installation cab files off the computer and burn them to a cd or put them in a partition that will not be affected during the reinstall you can use those source files as your previous version. I think. I know this works going from 3.1 to 95 and 95 to 98, but I bought the full version of 2000pro so you might want to make sure first.

yes you can.
boot from the cd, sometime during the installation it will ask you to put a qualifying cd in (i can't remember the wording). you can use any 95/98/nt install cd. it will check it and finish installing. it's the same way photoshop asks for an older cd for upgrade installs.

ddiccico is correct... the upgrade has all the install files, just wants proof that you purchased a qualifying previous version.
