Install Vista 64 bit without an optical drive.

I've been having problems with my IDE devices, and it seems if i try and burn the ISO to a disc and install that way, its just too much for it and it always just reboots in the middle of the install. I believe its because I'm copying from an IDE optical drive to an IDE HDD, and my system for some reason cannot handle that. I also only have only one header on my Motherboard, so 2 cables is not an option. Is there anyway i can install without using an optical drive? I have a SATA HDD that i use for my Windows XP install that i dont want to touch right now, but i can use the space if needed for the installation. Any ideas?

My advice would be to determine why your system is unstable, and fix those problem(s). As long as your system is unstable, you should not even be thinking about installing a new, untested operating system.

Is there any good free software to test HDD speeds or other diagnostics?

Google search for Ultimate Boot CD for all the utils you could ever want, and for HD testing, HDTach. Hope that helps.

So it turns out my motherboard MSI K9N Platinum has a bug that causes that problem. Some issue with a capacitor. I guess ill have to look into an RMA, after using the board for 3 months.
