Install Ubuntu off of a USB HD?

TallBill

Ok, I have a laptop with a bootleg copy of Vista on it from Iraq and now that I'm back in a land with laws I want to install Ubuntu on it. I have already burned the Fiesty Fawn Install onto a DVD, but my laptop DVD drive appears to be dead.

My laptop will recognize and boot of of a USB drive or network, and I have a spare USB hard drive.

Can I somehow set up the drive to boot, or can I just install Ubuntu onto the HD from another computer? I really don't want to replace the DVD drive or buy a usb drive to get Ubuntu onto this laptop. Thanks!
