Install Shield Problems :\

Zoltarc

Senior member
This is from a friend of mine.

"Hi, I'm having trouble with my InstallShield Wizard. The error started when I tried to install MOHAA and now it happens to every program I try to install which has InstallShield Wizard. It is strange because it only happens to the newer installshield, the blocky blue one (i.e. [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] ). The full blue line installShield Wizard (the older version I think) installs without a problem. I also tried to take my computer to repair and got told that it's not a problem with hardware. I also formatted my computer and reinstalled windows, and directx. This is the message I get:

---------------------------
MOHAA
---------------------------

An error occurred while launching the setup.

Class not registered

---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

This is a real frustration, as I can't install software due to this error

Any help would be much appreciated. "

D:!
I've searched the net in vien. Any ideas?

Zoltarc,

The "Class not registered" error would imply that a COM object is missing.

Try running Regmon before trying the install, and it might help you to see what COM class (and what DLL) it is failing over.

Also, what is the File Version for the Setup.exe for MOHAA? (This will tell you the exact version of the InstallShield Wizard used)

Hello, This is the friend 🙂

The file version of mohaa(medal of honour allied assault) setup is 6.31.100.1190

and I couldn't install Regmon. The message I got was:

C:\regmon\REGMON.EXE is not a valid Win32 application.

---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
I d/led it twice even :| and I installed it as a admin.

That is very strange. I just installed it (Regmon) myself, and it worked just great.

It sounds like you have a more serious problem than just a failed install...what is your system hardware and OS?

Hello, I finally installed regmon and I'm not sure how to use it. I tried putting the cd in and got heaps of setup.exe registries. But i don't know anything else from there D:

My sys requirements:

AMD 1500xp+
256 ddr ram
geforce2 pro
soundblaster 5.1 live~

Don't think it's anything with the reqs as this has suddenly happened D:

and OS is Win XP, the first time i got the error was on xp. I've formated and installed win 98, and still got the error, and I also got the error in Win 2K.

thanks

Yeah, I was quite surprised at the amount of Registry access going on in my system.

Setup.exe is the InstallShield program that runs when you install an application.
Start Regmon, press Ctrl-L and set the "Include" to setup.exe and set the "Highlight" to NOTFOUND and click Apply.
This should limit it to logging setup.exe registry accesses, and it will highlight any NOTFOUND keys or values.

Now run the MOHAA install until you get the error you described above.

See what registry key (if any) setup.exe was trying to read when the error occurred (I expect it to be one of the highlighted NOTFOUND entries).

Hi, I have run the test myself, and so did my friend. However even on my working PC I get lots of non-found errors, for example

Setup.exe:304 | OpenKey | HKCU\Interface\{E1B9357F-24B9-11D3-88B2-00C04F72F303}\TypeLib | NOTFOUND

Setup.exe:304 | QueryValue | HKCR\Interface\{E1B9357F-24B9-11D3-88B2-00C04F72F303}\TypeLib\(Default)
SUCCESS "{91814EB1-B5F0-11D2-80B9-00104B1F6CEA}"

Setup.exe:304 | QueryKey | HKCR\Interface\{E1B9357F-24B9-11D3-88B2-00C04F72F303}\TypeLib
SUCCESS Name: \REGISTRY\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\Interface\{E1B9357F-24B9-11D3-88B2-00C04F72F303}\TypeLib

It can't open the key yet the next step it uses the key anyway.....
This is an example of a working PC during an AVP2 install.

What extactly are we looking for? The makers of InstallShield want money for support. HELP US PLEASE 🙁

hello, this is what i got for my installshield. It even says SUCCES D:

23.22497105 EXPLORER.EXE:1008 QueryValue HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache\D:\Setup.exe SUCCESS "InstallShield (R) Setup Launcher"
and I got lots of setup.exe NOTFOUND ones. eg.

8.52315252 EXPLORER.EXE:1008 OpenKey HKCR\Applications\Setup.exe NOTFOUND

and some other autoruns.

omg, yer my xp copy is pirated, so you get exactly the same message? and you cant't fix it what so ever? eeek.

yep, i get the same messages. I didn't notice this until a few weeks ago when i tried to install a disk defragmentor program, and then i thought maybe it was just that program, but i've tried others and i still get errors saying i can't install.

I think i'm going to do a fresh format and install winXP again, but i hate doing a reformat since i have to backup all my stuff, and that takes awhile.

I don't suppose you two can try a legal copy of XP? Or even legal/illegal of Win2K?

Grommet5, post the results once you have formatted so we can see if it helps. XP is truely screwed over this 😕

I'm scared now :Q

a list of my hardware:

-Gigabyte VIA kT 266a AGP set motherboard. Model number: GA-7VTXE. Socekt A FSB 200/266 CPU. 3 DDR/ATX.5 PCI/AC97/ATA100
-230w ATX case.
-AMD 1500xp+ cpu. 4200 rpm fan
-256 DDR ram
-Seagate 7200rpm 20gig. Model: ST320423A
-Leadtek winfast nvidia geforce2 gts pro 32 DDR
-Creative Soundblaster 5.1 Live soundcard
-Lucent winmodem 56k com3. 😛
-MRW IDE-CD R/WR 4x4x32
-Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-116
-floppy drive
-digital plug and play monitor 17. 75hz at 85.
-Genius colorpage vivid pro2 scanner.
-microsoft intellipoint optical mouse PS/2

As I said the problem just came out of no where. Everything was working fine before.
now it's time to cry :~(

Formating didn't help me at all and I've tried win98 which is a legal copy and I've also tried win2k which is also a legal copy. Nothing works D:<

vacant, have you tried low level formatting, so that way it erases all partitions, even hidden ones created by winxp upon installation. Thats what i'm going to do when i do reformat, because i noticed a hidden partition, when i viewed the hds info thru partition magic. Strangely enough, the partition is not ntfs or fat, just blank, and its about 9mb in size. weird.
