I've got an old Gateway Solo here that a firend was using for his young daughter just for piddling around. It lost its operating system and I am trying to re-install his original Windows 98 disk onto it. Problem is, it has no floppy drive for the setup disk.
I have tried using my 8GB thumb drive, partitioned it to FAT32 with the HP utility and loaded the boot files, but the laptop refuses to recognize the USB drive.
Some tips online were to partition the thumb drive down to a smaller setup partition, so how would I do that?
The BIOS is set to read off of "removable drives" then "CD-ROM" then HDD. I would assume removable drives means the thumb drive.
I also have a USB SlimDrive 250Gb but haven't tried using it yet.
So anyone with some detailed steps for dummies would be appreciated here.
Give me some links and sites and any helpful information you can give me please.
Its just a toy but I would like to restore it as a favor for the fellow to keep his daughter happy.
Thanks in advance.
Drew
