install drivers with windows reinstallation

I have not resintalled Windows without doing a complete reformat in a while, but now someone I know is having problems with his XP system, but he wants to keep his files so I just told him to reinstall XP without refomratting. Now my question is do you still have to install drivers? I have not done this in so long I do not remmeber having to install drivers if it is just a reinstallation.

So do you still need to install drivers?

use the repair install method, insert disk, dont format, let windows find the OS,when prompted repair the OS,if it cannot repair then a full install will be required.

I know the procedure to repair an existing install. You misunderstood my question. My question was if I did a repair rather then a reformat will I still have to install drivers. I figured it out from someone else though. I have not done a repair install in so long I forgot if it required you to reinstall drivers.
