Install CPU/Heat Sink Before or After Installing MSI K7T Pro2-A

The title pretty much indicates my uncertainty. The CPU/Heat Sink is a boxed Athlon 900 set. Should the CPU/heat sink combination be installed onto the MSI K7T Pro2-A motherboard before or after installing the motherboard into the case?

Thanks from a first timer.

I have done it both ways. It doesn't really matter as far as the final outcome is concerned. If you have a VERY BIG case then you can wait until the mobo is installed; however, if your case is small you may want to do it before. Either way, the outcome is the same.

Before is easier, you get more room to work with. But as MrJ said, either way, the outcome is the same.

i prefer to put on my heatsink first then put the mobo into the chasis

since the cpu is kinda fragile and i would not take the chance to crack my cpu

I appreciate the responses I've gotten. If I install the CPU/heat sink combo onto the motherboard before installing the motherboard itself into the case, is there any particular way to cushion the board while working on it?

just becareful of the edges of the casing, you might scratch your mobo at those edges if you have a small case.

make sure your hands have no statics before touching the mobo

I always install the cpu\fan first....Kinda paranoid of overflexing the MB....Never could figure out why there's no support under the sockets? Would kill MB makers to put plastic feet under there!!!

What I usually do is place the MB,antistatic bag, foam from box in that order on a flat hard surface. Makes it so much easier to work with!!!
